
The Master’s in Constitutional Theory, Law and Litigation programme provides an advanced and in-depth examination of the theoretical foundations, legal framework and practical application of South Africa’s system of constitutional law. The programme covers key areas of South African constitutional law, such as constitutional supremacy, the rule of law, the separation of powers, multi-party democracy, co-operative government, human rights and judicial review.
An LLB degree with a minimum overall average of 55%.
This specialised LLM is designed for students who want to acquire expert knowledge and skills in a field that lies at the heart of South Africa’s system of democratic government, and who wish to pursue a career in academia, civil society, government or legal practice.
Students who successfully complete the Master’s in Constitutional Theory, Law and Litigation will acquire a deeper understanding of the principles and values on which South Africa’s system of constitutional democracy is based, as well as their historical development, philosophical foundations and application in practice. In addition, students will also acquire specialised knowledge in specific aspects of constitutional law such as the rule of law, separation of powers, multi-party democracy, co-operative government, human rights and judicial review. The programme will also help students develop critical thinking and analytical skills and improve their research and writing talents.
