Biography

Ms Salina Govindsamy is currently a lecturer at the School of Law. Prior to her appointment as a Lecturer, Ms Govindsamy was a practising attorney at a firm in Umhlanga where she specialised in Commercial Law, Intellectual Property, Consumer Law and Property Law. While in practice, Ms Govindsamy represented international commercial clients in commercial arbitrations involving contract disputes, intellectual property disputes as well as brand protection and consumer disputes. From 2011 to 2017, Salina provided pro bono training to young entrepreneurs and SMME who were embarking on an incubation programme under the auspices of Shanduka Black Umbrellas.

Ms Govindsamy lectures Property Law and Sale, Lease and Credit Agreements to the undergraduate students as well as lecturing Consumer Law to the Business Law Masters students.

Ms Govindsamy is currently pursuing her PhD in consumer law. In addition, Ms Govindsamy was appointed as the Director of External Liaison for the School in 2019. This portfolio involves liaising with third parties to provide knowledge and skills transfers that benefit students as well as facilitating a platform for new opportunities to be presented to students.
